Case Study: Infiltration
The regulatory body for Seabreeze Estate determined that all stormwater
runoff from the development be disposed of near its source rather
than conveying it to a large natural infiltration depression. This
Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) approach aims to mimic the natural
stormwater flow characteristics that existed before urban development.
StormTech chambers were selected due to the ease of installation and
infiltration properties. The use of the Isolator Row facilitates the
isolation and removal of the finer silt fractions in the surface water
that would normally change flow conditions and render the infiltration
trench ineffective.
This project consists of 85 separate chamber beds scattered throughout
the catchment and installed over a 6 month period. The beds are either
directly connected to the existing public drainage system
or by a swale drain from the roadway.
